Through an agreement between the Bologna Municipality and BolognaFiere Spa, Bologna Congressi recently took over management of the building designed by Leone Pancaldi which until last year housed the Modern Art Gallery. The new Sala Maggiore is directly connected to the Palazzo della Cultura e dei Congressi and together they make up the city's largest congress centre.
It features modern architecture and can host more than 2,000 people for congress activities or provide a 4,500 m² space for exhibitions, cocktails and gala dinners. A meticulous restoration programme has created large, flexible spaces capable of meeting the needs of the different types of events.
The Sala Maggiore, together with the Palazzo della Cultura e dei Congressi, underwent remodelling work during the summer and was opened in September in time for the XIX Congress of the European Association for Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery.
